Hi, I’m Laura. I’m a journalist with experience in print and broadcast reporting. I am currently based in New Zealand.
Good reporting makes news accessible to everyone, and shows audiences why they should care.
Since completing a Post-Graduate Diploma in Journalism in 2011, I have worked in a variety of roles at New Zealand media organisations.
After completing my studies, I worked for Stuff (formerly Fairfax Media NZ), New Zealand’s largest national news website and collection of newspapers, for seven years. My roles included working in the national business bureau, and covering general news at a community, regional and national level. While in the Stuff national news team, my stories, longform and interactive projects often led the site. I also co-created and co-hosted a top rated podcast, Superad.
I later moved to the Parliamentary Press Gallery, where I covered the 2017 election, for Stuff, then moved to independent online start-up Newsroom, as a senior political reporter. My role at Newsroom was focussed on setting the national news agenda, and producing exclusive stories, in-depth analysis and original investigations.
Before moving to London, I worked as a freelance television reporter for national news organisation Newshub (owned by Mediaworks). Since moving to London, I have worked as a freelance reporter for UK and NZ media.
During the past few years, I have appeared as an expert contributor for other news organisations, including as a panellist for weekly national current affairs TV show, The Nation; on the NZ daily news podcast, The Detail; on Radio New Zealand’s programmes; and on Monocle 24’s The Globalist, The Briefing and The Urbanist.
